JUST A MOMENT IN TIME

Moment.png

I get it. There's no shortage of wedding songs, right? No wonder. A song celebrating the ceremony of two becoming one is the ultimate love song.

It's been my conviction that a marriage built on love, faithfulness and truth from the start can survive those inevitable, often hurtful and frustrating moments all couples experience. And a couple who chooses, together,  to always lean on the sustaining power of a loving, faithful and true God has chosen a foundation that cannot crumble, a bond that can't be broken -- so long as they each continue to believe in each other and in Love Himself. He's the one who promises to "leave His light along the way." Lean on that light every day.

There are many classic wedding songs. Maybe this will someday be one of them.

THE DEMO:

Arrangement and strings by Dave Bullock, vocal and keyboard by Sue Bruk,, Guitar: Jeff Gilcrest)

THE STORY:

A long time ago my friend Scott asked me if I would write a song for his wedding. Being single at the time I told him I didn't know since I had never really experienced that kind of love. But I would try.

This song is the result.

In it, I tried to capture the fact that the ceremony, as wonderful and memorable as it can be and often is, is "just a moment in time," the first in what will be a lifelong pursuit, together, of mutual joy, commitment, respect, fun and, most of all, a very real, honest and strong love. I tried to capture, also, the point that relying on ourselves to make it work, especially in a day when so many marriages falter and implode -- often leaving both parties, their children and their families in shreds. That kind of self-confidence can turn what should be wondrous, even somehow miraculous, into an overbearing burden or a stifling routine that takes all joy and love out of life.

God never meant for that to be the case, especially for those whom He has loved and who have, in turn, chosen to love Him. Our reliance on God, in Christ, is the ultimate love for our new spouse. Now one flesh, their celebration is a declaration before family and friends -- a promise, and a pledge to join their lives, together, with an unfailing Ally, a trustworthy Protector of the love they profess to, and for, each other on this wonderful day.

.

Since my friend Scott's wedding day, I and others have performed this song for many wedding ceremonies, a privilege and honor that never gets old. And, ultimately, I had the delight to sing it to my own bride, Barbara.
