When I read and meditate on some of the psalms I can't help but think of David, Asaph, the sons of Korah (or whomever) dancing and snapping their fingers to the beat. I mean, they're upbeat. They're happy. They're celebratory.

And I'll bet they got the Israelites' feet moving.

That's not meant to be satirical. Or irreverent. It's just meant to point out that many of the psalms were well-crafted and designed to help the people of Yahweh lift up their voices in celebration of who he is and what he's done for them.... and they continue to do that for us today.

Don't get me wrong. The things that matter to God are very serious -- matters of life and death, literally and eternally. And I would never want to minimize the joy and intimacy of reverence for him, for his word, for his creation. But I don't think "Gawd" is a sourpuss, either. I think he enjoys watching his children have fun (in appropriate ways, of course).

And I think this song is fun. At least it's meant to be.

Praise.., 1950s style. This lively tune is reminiscent of early rock-a-billy. It's easy to sing to. It's rockin.' And it's heavenly fun.
